How to use it
- Choose a .docx file.
- Pick A4 or US Letter.
- Press Convert to PDF.
What comes across, and what does not
A .docx is a ZIP of XML files. Docrift reads its structure with the open-source mammoth library: headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, bulleted and numbered lists, tables and inline pictures. It then lays the text out on fresh PDF pages with a clean, consistent typeface.
Because the PDF is laid out again rather than “printed” by Word, exact fonts, text boxes, headers and footers, columns, page numbers and tracked changes are not reproduced. For a CV or letter that must look exactly as designed, use File → Save as PDF in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. For reading, archiving, forms and sharing, this is quicker and private.
Old .doc files
The pre-2007 .doc format is a binary format that cannot be parsed reliably in a browser. Open it and save as .docx first.
Questions
Is DOCX to PDF conversion free?
Yes, with no account, limit or watermark.
Is my Word document uploaded?
No. The file is unzipped and laid out in this tab. Nothing is sent.
Why does my PDF use a different font?
Fonts are not stored inside most .docx files; Word borrows them from your computer. To keep the result consistent everywhere, Docrift embeds Liberation Sans, a free font metrically matched to Arial.
Are hyperlinks kept?
Link text is kept and coloured, but it is not clickable in the PDF.
