How to use it
- Choose a PDF; text appears immediately.
- Toggle page markers if you want them.
- Copy everything or download a .txt.
Reading order
Text in a PDF can be stored in any order. Docrift sorts fragments top-to-bottom and left-to-right, joins them into lines and paragraphs, and mends words broken with a hyphen at the end of a line. Two-column layouts may interleave; if that happens, split the page or copy each column from a PDF reader.
Questions
Why is the output empty?
The PDF is a scanned image with no text layer. OCR PDF can read it.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. It is opened with pdf.js, the same PDF engine Firefox uses, inside this tab. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which encoding is the .txt?
UTF-8, which every modern editor opens correctly.
